Urban development process

One of the principal concerns of the council and mayor Andreas Haas is to develop the town on a sustainable basis. Together, they will define the areas on which the municipality is to focus in the next ten to fifteen years.

In November 2008, the council decided to allocate the task of moderating and organising the urban development process to Identität & Image. The eight main points of this process were defined in a closed meeting between the urban development committee and the steering committee:

  • Urban design, settlement development and transport
  • Retail, gastronomy and the hotel industry
  • Industrial development
  • Environment, energy and climate protection
  • Germering’s self-image and regional interdependence
  • Living together and social change
  • Leisure and culture
  • Marketing within and outside the town

The public got involved for the first time during the “lure of the town” in April and the citizens’ workshop in May 2009. In February 2010, the city council set out in a mission statement which planning targets are to be realised. A concrete programme of action for sustainable urban development planning, supported by the citizens of Germering, was approved in July.

Many citizens, businesspeople, public representatives and members of the council and administrative bodies have dedicated numerous hours to developing this programme for the future. Long-term visions and medium-term strategies (accompanied by appropriate measures) were drawn up in the eight areas of activity. These are to be successively implemented in cooperation with citizens, the council and administrative bodies. The following focal points were identified:

  • The design of the town centre
  • Business development
  • Family support
  • Climate protection.

The urban development process is led by the municipal planning and building control office.
